A PAIR OF VINTAGE SANCAI CHINESE SCHOLARS
Chinese circa 1900 - 1930
An exceptionally beautiful and unusual pair of Chinese export porcelain sancai (three colored) scholars draped in flowing robes. One holds a lotus, the other a scroll. Both are standing atop an egg and spinach base. Sancai pottery is also known as egg and spinach when the green, yellow and brown glaze creates a mottled effect.
These figures are in excellent antique condition, hand-picked by me to a standard I would gladly display in my own home. Given their age, any small nicks, crazing or minor glazing wear are not considered defects, just evidence of a life well lived.
Any patina or signs of age are documented in the photos for your reference. If you have any specific questions before purchasing please contact shop@jamescoviello.com.
